Intro:

I have played my fair shair of Puzzle Games – Bejeweled, Candy Crush, Zuma Deluxe, and even the classic Tetris. But the thing about Puzzle Galaxies is even though it has the traditional ‘match’ characteristic that a typical puzzle game has, it is like none other puzzle game out there! Intrigued? You should be =). Read on and I will tell you more about this special gem.

In a Nutshell:

Puzzle Galaxies is a lot like other puzzle games that involve matching jewels. You have a space station, with numerous pods, and each pod holds 4 jewels. And the objective – match the 4 jewels in each pod. You can link two jewels together by clicking two pods, and then when you click a jewel it swaps with another jewel in the other pod.

Nothing too complex – although admittingly, the mechanics of trading jewels is different from other puzzle games and may confuse some people at first. However, the game features help tutorial screens that can be accessed anytime easily during the game (by pressing the help icon at the top). Soon enough though, the mechanic becomes second nature and the game is very easy to play.

Then it starts to get interesting……. enemies!

You play through the first four levels, beating the clock to match 4 jewels in each pod. Somewhat fun, but nothing really ‘original’ compared to other puzzle games. Then, on level 5, you are introduced to the enemies! These little pesky buggers are there to give you a hard time – they grab jewels that are matching in a pod, and then trade them with other pods to make your life difficult. At first, one bad guy is not so bad – but quickly the number of enemies increases. Eventually you will have to deal with 3 enemies, then 5, then sometimes as many as 7 enemies. And the enemies also get tougher too – there’s a basic enemy, who is a slow moving enemy that takes jewels, then there’s fast enemies, which are like basic enemies, but faster! Eventually you even get to the ‘Ultra’ enemy, who can carry two jewels.

These guys make your life difficult, and consequently, it makes the game interesting. Now that there’s something in the way to making you match jewels, there is a whole new ‘strategy’ compared to other puzzle games that has never been done before. And it makes for an original and fun puzzle gaming experience.

And more….. a ‘locked’ safe!

I won’t give away too much on this one (gotta leave some of the game a surprise), but I will let you know that the later levels will have a safe that must be unlocked. It is your job to unlock it to beat the level.

Conclusion

Puzzle Galaxies is a great puzzle game! It is exciting, action-packed, and worth giving a try. Although it doesn’t look like much on the surface, once you start playing it you will see why this puzzle game is really fun to play!

The good things:

• Original puzzle game; nothing like it is out there
• Colorful graphics
• Great soundtrack
• Very action-packed for a puzzle game

The bad things:

• Might be too short (but goes along with the price)

Puzzle Galaxies is a fun, original puzzle game, and is a must for any die-hard puzzle gamer! And for the typical gamer, this is still a very fun and engaging puzzle game to play.
